Health requirements
There are no official health requirements for pet dogs, cats or ferrets travelling between Jersey and:
- the UK
- the Isle of Man
- other Channel Islands
Your pet doesn't need to have a pet passport or any other documentation to travel to Jersey from the UK (including Northern Ireland). However, it must have landed legally in the UK if originating from abroad.

There are no vaccinations needed to travel. However, you should discuss your pet's health with your vet to make sure it's fit to travel and properly cared for.

Travelling to and from Northern Ireland

If you have a pet passport issued in Northern Ireland, contact your vet for advice before travelling.
Pet dogs, cats or ferrets arriving to Northern Ireland can enter through a travellers' point of entry where local authorities will check their documentation and identity.
You may need to show your pet's Animal Health Certificate (AHC) along with proof of their:
- microchip
- rabies vaccination
- tapeworm treatment

The UK requires all dogs older than 8 weeks to be microchipped.
If your dog travels to the UK from Jersey for more than 30 days it must be microchipped and registered on an approved database operating in the UK.

Transport
Your pet may travel with any airline or ferry operator agreeing to carry them.
The minimum age for dogs, cats or ferrets to fly is 8 weeks old. The airline may need you to obtain a fitness to travel certificate from your vet.
If you arrange transport or delivery of your pet, the air or sea carrier must have a welfare during transport authorisation, including for:
- commercial carriers
- private carriers trying to achieve a financial gain whether direct or indirect
You don't need an authorisation if the pet's owner accompanies the animal on a private journey.
If you travel on a private plane or boat, you must not visit a foreign port on the way.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)
If you're bringing a pet to live in Jersey it'll be considered an import. You may need to pay GST if the total import cost exceeds the personal allowance. This includes the cost of:

Dog licences
All dogs living in Jersey aged 6 months or older must be licensed under the Dogs (Jersey) Law 1961. You can purchase a dog licence from your parish authorities.
You don't need a dog licence for a dog kept and used solely as a guide dog by a blind or a deaf person.
