To achieve this, the Manifesto gives a series of recommendations set against 8 key themes:

  • music and collective wellbeing

Joint Ministerial response to the Music Manifesto

“Music is and has always been part of the life blood of our community. Although we interact with music every day in all sorts of different ways, we rarely step back and reflect on the health and vitality of our musical life. Other more pragmatic concerns in relation to the economy and to our education system tend to crowd-out the consideration of less tangible but arguably more important factors such as the future of music in the island. However, as recent research attests, music is fundamental to our quality of life, our health and wellbeing and our enjoyment of living and working in Jersey, and the development of our young people.

Therefore, we welcome, endorse, support and are committed to the Music Manifesto. It is a rare privilege to have the opportunity to listen deeply and reflect meaningfully on the hopes, aspirations, and concerns of a community in this way. The musical community has been working away tirelessly for many decades, often in very difficult circumstances. It’s about time that we did more to support the flourishing of music in Jersey.

The Music Manifesto has not taken a conventional approach to government consultation or strategy formation and that is exactly why it is such a powerful document. Indeed, this pioneering approach could form the basis for deeper engagement between government and different sectors of society.

As politicians and as music lovers, we are very excited by what the Music Manifesto represents. We are committed to helping to translate this compelling vision into tangible actions that will benefit us all.”
