Reduced Student Fares During All School Holidays

08 August 2006

Following the successful trial that took place during the Christmas holidays, the Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Guy de Faye, has now agreed to allow students in full time education to travel on Connex bus services for 50p up to 7 pm during all school holidays as well as term time, on a permanent basis. Prior to Christmas, students were only able to travel for a 50p fare from 7am to 7pm , Monday to Friday during the school term.

To obtain the 50p fare, which is the same rate currently charged for any child aged 12 to 15, the student must be able to show their valid school or National Union of Students photo ID card proving that the holder is in full time education.

“The trial at Christmas went well, and I hope that students will make use of these reduced fares during their half term break and other school holidays,” said the Minister. “Connex has reported that nearly 350 journeys were made by students over the Christmas period and we hope that even more students will take advantage of our new approach. Our young passengers are potentially our future regular adult customers and I want to encourage them to use our local buses to the full.
