Market Refurbishment Night Time Construction Work

The Transport and Technical Services Department will be carrying out essential maintenance work at the central market, involving night time and Sunday working from Monday 23 January until Friday 28 April. On Mondays to Wednesdays the works will run from 5pm until 2am with noisy work restricted to before 9pm and on Sundays the works will take place between 8am to 5pm . The market will also be closed on Thursday afternoons and works will continue between 2pm and 10pm .

These works only affect the Central Market, the Beresford (Fish) Market will be open as normal including Thursday afternoons.

This project consists primarily of the installation of new services and underground drainage. These installations are necessary as the existing services and drainage within the Market have served their purpose for many years, but are past their useful life and need to be replaced.

For health and safety reasons these works need to be undertaken when the market is closed to the public. Every effort is being made to cause as little disruption as possible both to market users and to nearby residents and businesses.
