Increase in size of the Planning Applications Panel

12 September 2007

Senator Freddie Cohen, the Minister for Planning and Environment, is to nominate four new members of the Planning Applications Panel, in a proposition to be lodged next Tuesday (P.119/2007)

Should the States agree to the nominations, the following States Members will join the Panel:

  • Constable P. Hanning of St Saviour
  • Deputy G. Baudains of St Clement
  • Deputy C. Egré of St Peter
  • Deputy J. Gallichan of St Mary

They will join existing members, Assistant Minister Deputy A. Pryke who chairs the Panel, the Constables of St Peter and Trinity and Deputy S. Power of St Brelade.

Following the coming into force, in August, of Amendment No.4 to the Planning and Building Law 2002, the Planning Applications Panel can comprise up to nine members. Until now, it could only sit as a Panel of three.

Senator Cohen said…...

“In presenting the Law amendment to the States in January, I was of the opinion that a Panel of only 3 members represented too small a number. This was one of the recommendations of Chris Shepley in his review of the Jersey planning system in the autumn of 2005.”

“I also take this opportunity to thank publicly the former Constable of St Saviour, Mr. Philip Ozouf, who retired from the States in July, for his sterling work, not only on the Panel, but also as a member of the Planning Applications Sub-Committee during the last seven years.”
