Jersey Tourism Celebrates Prestigious Industry Award

Pure Jersey magazine receives award of excellence from Communicators in Business. 

Pure Jersey, the bi-annual promotional magazine issued by Jersey Tourism, has been nominated for a prestigious award by the British Association of Communicators in Business. The awards represent Europe’s most prestigious corporate communications competition and have been celebrating the best in the business for over 50 years.

The magazine has received an Award of Excellence, and has also been short listed for overall class winner, to be announced at an Awards Dinner in Newcastle on 25th May. The winner will be announced by Steve Cram MBE.

The Judge’s appraisal included the following positive feedback: “Pure Jersey continues to capture what it means to create a good travel and leisure guide throughout its pages. The publication is very well put together from start to finish and I imagine is a great asset to the Jersey tourism industry.”

Senator Philip Ozouf Economic Development Minister said: “Such an award is a great compliment to the work we are conducting to present the island in a contemporary and innovative fashion. The award gives additional confidence that our new marketing strategy is on the right track”.

135,000 English copies are distributed mostly by post to consumers responding to Jersey Tourism UK advertising campaign. In addition Pure Jersey is used by hotels for guest rooms and public areas, plus other Jersey businesses have displayed the magazine in reception areas for their clients visiting the island.

A further 100,000 are distributed equally between French and German enquires and distributed at various European travel shows. An online version of the magazine is also available on www.jersey.com .The 2007 Spring/Summer edition features TV presenter Ben Fogle, a self-confessed island addict who spent a weekend in Jersey last summer trying out the islands active sports such as coasteering, whilst exploring in a hired classic car.

Jersey Tourism’s marketing team manages the magazine synopsis planning and photography with £200,000 invested in its production. The magazine is edited by Roger Thomas, a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers, with layout and creative being produced by Wiltshire-based Sheard & Hudson.

David de Carteret, Director of Tourism & Marketing said: “Pure Jersey was a significant departure from our previous format and we have been reassured that the strategy was correct by customer and industry partner reactions since it was first produced, however, such an accolade from our industry peers is very high praise of our team’s ability to deliver top quality marketing publications”

The third edition will be published in September, with an initial print run of 20,000. The lead feature is written by BBC presenter Alice Beer, who reports on an indulgent weekend break spent with her husband in one of Jersey’s spa hotels. The issue will also feature various articles on some of the amazing things to do on a short break to the island in the autumn and winter period, such as the gastronomic delights of Tennerfest in October and the spectacular Fete de Noue which runs throughout December complete with street parades and an ice rink, topped off with VAT free shopping.

The magazine aims to be an informative guide to the island, highlighting important events, attractions and places of interest, with regular features including ‘Jersey files’. One of the main objectives of the magazine is to make readers more aware of online facilities such as the Jersey Tourism website (www.jersey.com) and also the island’s local attractions. This increased awareness should provide potential visitors with the means to explore the internet and gain increased knowledge of Jersey and its many attributes before visiting.
