Resurfacing of La Grande Route de St Pierre, Phase 2 - ahead of schedule

24 August 2007

The second phase of the resurfacing of La Grande Route de St Pierre is due to start 28 August 2007 , two 2 weeks earlier than previously advertised. The first phase works were accelerated once it became apparent that Phase 2 of the project would need more time, as urgent drainage repair works need to be carried out in that stretch of road. Extra hours were worked on Phase 1 to make more time available for the second Phase, while keeping the project within its original programme.

The Phase 2 resurfacing and drainage repairs will take place on La Route de Beaumont between La Rue d’Église (the junction at the St Peter Co-op Grand Marché) to Mont Fallu (the junction at the rear of St Peter’s Country Apartments) and will take approximately 6 weeks to complete.

During the daytime the road will be open, but the drainage repair works will be taking place using temporary traffic lights. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the work the traffic lights will have to remain in place during peak hour traffic. This is expected to cause delays and drivers are recommended to use St Peter’s Valley as an alternative route whenever possible. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly when making important trips such as travelling to the airport.

To avoid the major traffic disruption that would otherwise occur, the main resurfacing work will only be carried out during the evenings (Monday – Friday 6.30pm to 2.00am), with all noisy working outside premises being strictly limited to before 10pm. For traffic, from 6.30pm to 9.00pm the road will remain open to northbound drivers, but southbound vehicles will be directed along short diversions via neighbouring lanes. After 9.00pm to 2.00am the road will be closed completely and northbound drivers will also be diverted, via St Peter’s Valley.

Where traffic is diverted along Green Lanes, drivers are advised to respect the 15mph speed limit which will be strictly enforced.

TTS will be liaising with Brenwal Ltd to ensure that nuisance and disruption is minimised and managed. Where inconvenience is inevitable, residents and the travelling public will be provided with clear information in advance of the works. Advertisements and signs identifying the extents of the works and diversions will be posted.
