New Recycling Facility For Building Materials

02 January 2007

A new recycling centre for building and demolition waste is opening at the La Collette Reclamation site on 5th January 2007. Operated by AA Langois Limited, the facility will provide a full range of recycled products for re-use in the building and construction trade.

AA Langois Limited has been operating as a haulage and contract site clearance company for 14 years. Having successfully bid for the contract to set up the Aggregate Recycling Centre earlier this year, the company has invested heavily in the latest technology to create construction materials which reach British and European industry standards.

Alan Langois, Managing Director says "We view the recycling of demolition and building waste as an opportunity to not only extend the life of existing quarry reserves but also to reduce waste and the environmental impact of mineral extraction."

Of the 230,000 tonnes of demolition and construction waste received at La Collette, between 10 and 12% is currently recycled.

John Rogers, TTS Director of Waste Management says "One of the objectives of the Solid Waste Strategy is to improve Jersey’s aggregate recycling facilities. We hope that by working with AA Langois Limited we can provide Jersey’s "third quarry" and thereby extend the life of the landfill site at La Collette."
