New Recycling Facilities For Two Jersey Parishes

06 February 2007

Two new recycling sites have been set up at the Community Centres in St Mary and St Lawrence. Parishioners will now be able to take newspapers and magazines, aluminum cans and textiles to these locations.

Both Parish Connétables were keen to improve recycling opportunities and have worked with the Transport and Technical Services Department to identify central sites within their parishes which would be convenient for their Parishioners.

Ken Le Brun, Connétable of St Mary said “Recycling is an issue that we all need to embrace and make part of our daily lives. The St. Mary Youth and Community Centre Committee felt that their site was an ideal place for the new bring banks, with the centre being so popular and a drop-off point for the Primary school.”

St. Lawrence Connétable, Geoffrey Fisher said “We are delighted to offer this facility and are keen to expand recycling in St. Lawrence in the near future. Deputy Mezbourian has been very supportive in achieving this.”

Later this year Transport and Technical Services will be upgrading the recycling collection points with new equipment, adding to the number of sites and the range of materials that can be recycled to include plastic bottles and metal packaging.
