New Hospital Chaplain Appointed

24 April 2007

The Reverend Maureen Turner has recently been appointed as Hospital Chaplaincy Team Leader and is due to take up her post at the beginning of July. Mrs Turner is currently Chaplaincy Team Leader for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Previously she has worked in Warwick and she will bring 20 Years experience in the Ministry when she arrives in Jersey.

Mrs Turner is committed to working collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team, and intends to bring support and comfort to patients, relatives and members of the healthcare professional workforce. She is particularly excited at the prospect of working in Jersey and is looking forward to facing fresh challenges and making new friends.

The Dean of Jersey, The Very Reverend Bob Key, has confirmed his pleasure at this appointment. He said ‘I’m delighted that we were able to appoint such a gifted and experienced priest to this strategic ministry. It will be a great joy to have Maureen as a member of the Deanery Team’. The Dean confirmed that, as a member of the Clergy Chapter, Mrs Turner would play a very full part in the life of the local Anglican community.

James Le Feuvre confirmed that the hospital services were looking forward to welcoming Maureen who will be taking up the position filled by Rev Helena Cermakova, prior to her retirement in December 2006. Mr Le Feuvre expressed his appreciation of the existing hospital chaplaincy team which has worked hard to maintain the service during this interval. ’I am delighted that Maureen is set to join us in July, she is a very well respected and experienced chaplain whom has much to offer the local service and I know that she will be made very welcome by all of her colleagues here in Jersey’.

A service of induction will be held, in the Hospital Chapel, on Monday 2nd July
