Buses To Use Broad Street To Drop Off Passengers

24 July 2008

From Monday 28 July, Connex buses coming into St Helier from the west will use the bus stop in Broad Street by the Post Office to drop off passengers close to the town centre. Currently, the Library Place stop is used but this can block traffic behind the bus, as there is no separate bus lay-by, and also buses then get delayed having to join the traffic in Hill Street/Mulcaster Street.

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services said “Buses stopping in the middle of the road in Library Place can create congestion in Conway Street. By using the Broad Street stop vehicles can overtake the buses while passengers are getting off. It is vital that we maintain a central stop for members of the public to access town easily – the buses from the east use Grenville Street and Hill Street but those from the west can sensibly use Broad Street which will additionally allow quicker returns to Liberation Station or the Connex depots.”

The buses will travel down Broad Street, into Castle Street and then either turn left to access Liberation Station or go straight over the Esplanade to the Albert Pier facilities. Any passengers wanting to get off at Liberation Station can do so before the bus turns left into Conway Street on its approach to Broad Street.

This change will start on Monday 28 July but Connex will put notices on the buses to advise passengers.
