Site investigation works for Esplanade Quarter Project

18 January 2008

As part of the Feasibility Study and information gathering process for the Esplanade Quarter project, a seventeen week site investigation will commence on Monday 21st January.  The works will include trial pits and boreholes which will be used to gather data to inform the design team of the nature and make up of the ground below the site.

The works will be carried out in and around the Esplanade car park site and the area of waste land adjacent to Les Jardins de La Mer. The bore holes will be drilled from specialist track mounted site investigation rigs which will drill holes to a depth between 10 and 20m deep. Amplus Limited, a local site investigation specialist, has been employed on behalf of the developers, Harcourt, to carry out the works.

Works in the Esplanade car park will take approximately 7 - 8 weeks and will have minimal impact on car park users.   Fay Calvert , Transport and Technical Services (TTS) Car Parks Manager, said, "Wherever possible the boreholes are being sunk in places which avoid the loss of parking spaces, however it is possible that up to ten spaces may be out of action at any one time.  Hopefully this will not inconvenience the public too much as there is currently available space in the other car parks, Pier Road in particular, even with the restrictions due to the refurbishment at Patriotic Street Car Park.  We will work closely with Amplus to minimise any disruption to the car park users and we will continue to monitor the situation closely"

TTS and WEB apologise in advance for any disruption or inconvenience caused
