The Transport and Technical Services Recycling Team has been working with St John’s Primary School to transform hundreds of used plastic bottles into a recycled plastic bottle greenhouse.
The greenhouse will be displayed as part of the Recycling Team’s stand at the Home and Lifestyle Exhibition which takes place at Fort Regent from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th November.
After the show the greenhouse will be returned to St John’s School where the pupils are looking forward to growing a variety of plants.
Andrew Willis, Head Teacher at St John’s School said ‘The whole school has been involved in the building process and it has been a fantastic way for the children to learn about recycling and how things that are often thrown away can be transformed into something useful. We have lots of ideas on how the greenhouse will be used and we are hoping for a bumper tomato harvest next year!’
Emma Richardson, Assistant Recycling Officer said ‘This project has shown how rubbish can be transformed into something completely different and very useful. By showcasing the greenhouse at the Home and Lifestyle Exhibition, we hope it will engage people to think about recycling and perhaps inspire some other unusual projects!’
The recycled plastic bottle greenhouse can be found at Stand E65 at the Home and Lifestyle Exhibition at Fort Regent.
