Of the 944 vehicles that passed through a St. Lawrence road check two vehicles were impounded, nine additional drivers were issued with defect notices, one driver was found to be driving without a valid licence and a further two drivers were required to produce their driving documents at the St Lawrence Parish Hall.
Between 7:30am and 9:00am on Thursday 17 April 2008, officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), and the Honorary Police of St. Lawrence joined forces to conduct a road check on Le Chemin Des Moulins, (St Peters Valley), near to Bel Royal School.
One small commercial vehicle, with two defective tyres and a leaking fuel filler cap, was impounded to a workshop for repair and a second small commercial vehicle, suspected of being overloaded, was impounded at the check until some of the load had been removed. Two drivers were advised regarding the manner in which their vehicles were loaded.
An additional nine drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicles at DVS with the defects rectified. Defects included lighting, bodywork and exhaust systems.
One driver was found to be driving without a valid licence and was prevented from driving any further. Another two drivers will have to produce their vehicle insurance and driving licences at the St. Lawrence Parish Hall.
Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir commented, “As in the St John road check last week, the standard of vehicle passing through this busy road check was generally good. A couple of vehicles belonging to the same operator were found to be overloaded. This can cause handling problems for the driver and affect the braking so is a serious safety concern. It is the driver’s and operator’s responsibility to ensure that any load is within the vehicle’s capacity and evenly distributed.”
