Small Commercial Vehicle Scrapped From Grouville Road Check

19 May 2008

Some 260 vehicles passed through a Grouville road check in which one small commercial vehicle was towed directly to be scrapped. A car, with two defective tyres, was impounded, ten drivers were issued with defect notices and two further drivers have to produce their driving documentation at Grouville Parish Hall.

Between 4.30pm and 6.00pm on Thursday 15 May 2008, Officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), collaborated with the Honorary Police of Grouville to conduct a road check on La Rue à Don.

A small commercial vehicle was found to be in such poor condition that it was towed directly to be scrapped. A car with two grossly defective tyres, and non compliant lights, was impounded at the check. In addition, ten drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to produce their vehicles at DVS with the defects rectified. Defects included: bodywork, exhaust systems, tyres and lights.

Two drivers were required to notify DVS of a change in registered keeper details, and two further drivers must produce their driving documentation at Grouville Parish Hall.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir commented, “Generally, the standard of vehicles passing through the check was good. The vehicle which is to be scrapped was totally unroadworthy and the suspension could have failed completely, at any time, with serious consequences for anyone travelling in the vehicle. The four people in the vehicle at the time can consider themselves very lucky that the vehicle was stopped and impounded.”
