Chief Minister attends talks with French counterparts

22 October 2009

Offshore wind farms and a marine conservation area are among the topics on the agenda for the Chief Minister’s meeting with the Conseil général de la Manche tomorrow (Friday 23 October).

Senator Terry Le Sueur, accompanied by a Jersey delegation, will meet with the Conseil’s President, Senator Jean-Francois Le Grand and the Préfet de la Manche, Monsieur Jean-Pierre Laflaquière, in St Lô. The meeting will build on the region’s close economic, cultural and political links which were formalised with an agreement signed in Paris in November 2008.

During the visit, the Chief Minister will be taken to see the Couesnon dam, an environmental conservation project near Mont St Michel. This will be followed by talks about a third marine electricity cable, a marine park and the planning process required for developing wind farms.

The Jersey delegation includes Constable Ken Vibert, honorary French Consul David Myatt, Simon Bossy and Mike Entwistle.
