Chief Officer confirmed at TTS

14 December 2009

The acting Chief Officer for Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has been confirmed in the role on a permanent basis, six months after taking on the job in an interim capacity.

John Rogers, who was the Director of Waste Management for TTS from 2003, took part in a competitive assessment centre and interview process for the Chief Officer job in March, after the former Chief Officer, John Richardson, was appointed Deputy Chief Executive.

Mr Rogers was selected to take over in an interim capacity and has now been confirmed in the role, following a further interview panel earlier this month. The panel which confirmed his appointment consisted of the Chief Executive, the Deputy Chief Executive, the Minister for TTS, the HR Director and a representative from the Appointments Commission.

Mr Rogers has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. Before joining the department Mr Rogers had a diverse career, working predominantly in the private sector in the water and waste industries.

On being appointed to the post of Chief Officer he said: “I am very pleased to have been confirmed in this position after a challenging six months. I am looking forward to progressing all the work and projects TTS are responsible for to provide safe, efficient and appropriate services and infrastructure for the island. One of the most significant of these is the construction of the new Energy from Waste Plant at La Collette, Jersey’s largest ever single capital project.”

“TTS will need to build on the work of the previous Chief Officer and continue to become more business like in approach, while also ensuring that our teams feel valued, engaged and have a clear sense of purpose.”

“My department will be facing many challenges in the coming years. The Strategic Plan highlighted the importance of maintaining the island’s essential infrastructure, and much of that comes under the remit of TTS. Things like sea defences, roads, waste disposal and sewers are all in need of significant investment and ensuring appropriate funds are made available will be one of my major challenges.”

Mr Rogers takes up his position on 1 January 2010.
