Energy from Waste Plant Site Hand-Over Completed

09 March 2009

Transport and Technical Services has handed over the full site required for the construction of the La Collette Energy from Waste facility following the completion of the enabling works at the La Collette Site.

The hand-over occurred two weeks early and now gives the Contractor – CSBC (Jersey) Limited - the extent of site required to complete construction of the plant, which is due to be commissioned in July 2011.

The enabling works involved the relocation of public and commercial green waste reception and shredding facilities, relocation of the weighbridges for the inert waste site, construction of a new site access road and a new pipe bridge from the fuel storage facility to the Jersey Electricity Company power station.

CSBC (Jersey) Limited has had partial site access from the start of the year and has already made progress on the excavation of the waste bunker and has installed site offices ready for further construction. Over 200 people will work on the site during the peak period of construction.

The next stage of works will involve the controlled blasting of rock within the waste bunker area. CSBC (Jersey) Limited has this week obtained approval from the Minister for Home Affairs to conduct the blasting and has undertaken extensive consultation with local stakeholders with a view to ensuring that the blasting will be carried out with minimum disturbance. During this period access to the pedestrian footpaths and cycle-paths across the north of the La Collette Site will be stopped.

Minister for Transport and Technical Services, Connétable Mike Jackson said, “I am pleased that the enabling works have been completed successfully and the site handed over to the contractor on time. I have visited the site myself to see the transformation which is considerable. I am grateful to the occupiers of the La Collette site for their continuing patience during the construction period.”
