Employment Tribunal releases annual report

26 October 2009

The Jersey Employment Tribunal has published its annual report for the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009.

The report shows that 187 applications were submitted to the Employment Tribunal during the period under review, 23 more than in the previous year.

As in previous years, most of the cases coming before the tribunal continue to relate to unfair dismissal and payment of wages. 18 applications were heard by the tribunal, half of which were found in favour of the employer and half in favour of the employee. 52 applications were settled by the parties without a tribunal hearing.

Social Security Minister Deputy Ian Gorst said: “I am very grateful to the Tribunal Chairman Advocate Le Quesne, his Deputy Chairman, the Side Members of the Employment Tribunal and their Secretary for their hard work during the past year. I am aware that 3 Side Member positions are currently vacant, for both employer and employee representatives, and I would encourage interested individuals to apply for one of these worthwhile positions.”

The annual report will be laid before the States, as required by the Employment Tribunal (Jersey) Regulations 2005.

Copies of the report are available free of charge from the States Greffe and the Employment tribunal page.
