Visit strengthens links with Israel

01 October 2009

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Israeli Embassy in London, Mr Shmuel Ben–Tovim was in Jersey from the 18 -21 September 2009 for the first official visit to the Island by an Israeli Minister.

The aim of the visit was to endorse the strong Jersey-Israeli relationship, raise awareness of our finance sector, consider the possibility of more Israeli banks setting up in Jersey and discuss Intellectual Property and disaster recovery opportunities.

Mr Shmuel Ben–Tovim was welcomed by the Minister of Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, Assistant Ministers, Senator Paul Routier and Constable Len Norman and officers from the EDD department. During his visit he also visited the Jersey Financial Services Commission, Jersey Finance and several prominent financial institutions.

Speaking from London, Mr Shmuel Ben-Tovim said. "I was delighted to be invited to visit your beautiful Island. There are benefits to be gained on both sides in continuing and strengthening the strong relationship between our countries and I am hopeful that my visit reinforced our commitment to move this forward."

Senator Alan Maclean also warmly welcomed Mr Shmuel Ben-Tovim's visit," we are always looking to raise awareness of our finance industry and other services we can offer and Mr Shmuel Ben-Tovim's visit afforded us an excellent opportunity to discuss areas of mutual interest. I am hopeful that we will send a delegation to Israel in the future to further develop these talks."
