Suppliers invited to Meet the Buyer

19 March 2009

Jersey businesses are invited to Meet The Buyer at an event organised by the States of Jersey on 23 March at the Hotel de France.

The event is designed to provide information about the opportunities for local companies to supply services and products to the many different departments of the States of Jersey and to find out how to work with the States. For States of Jersey departments it is a chance to establish the capacity available in the local business community.

Economic Development Minister Senator Alan Maclean said: 'During these challenging economic times I am keen to ensure that local businesses have an opportunity to work with the States of Jersey. We buy a broad range of products and services to service the island's needs and I am pleased that all States departments are supporting this initiative.

'Meet the Buyer will ensure local businesses are provided with every opportunity to find out about opportunities during the remainder of 2009 and 2010. This is not about protecting local companies but making sure there is a level playing field and local companies across all sectors are given the opportunity to work with States departments.

'Jersey Enterprise organised two meet the buyer events last year but this is the first time the States have been involved. I hope this will become an annual event.'

Jersey Enterprise is managing the event and is anticipating a high level of interest. The event is also being supported by the States of Jersey Procurement Team and by many States departments, who will be available on the day.

Meet The Buyer is being held at the Hotel de France and will run all day on Monday 23 March.

It will operate on an allocated appointment basis and companies that would like to attend have until Friday 20th March to register. Business will be given 20 minute slots to meet the appropriate buyers for the services or products they can deliver.

Full details of the opportunities that are available, along with registration forms are available online at www.jersey.com/enterprise or by calling Jersey Enterprise on 448140.
