Local companies take on retail lease at Jersey Airport

30 July 2009

Two well-known Jersey companies are combining to take one of the three new retail outlets being created in the redeveloped airside departures lounge at Jersey Airport. Jersey Pottery and La Mare Wine Estate will be selling their own local produce and other Jersey products in a shared outlet.

The 8-year lease was awarded following an expressions of interests process carried out by Buckley & Co on behalf of Jersey Airport. Now that the terms of the lease have been agreed, work will commence next month in fitting out the new shop area which is hoped will open for business sometime in September.

Assistant Minister for Economic Development Senator Paul Routier, who has political responsibility for Jersey Airport, is pleased to see a local presence at Jersey Airport. He said: “During the launch of this project we announced that an additional number of retail units would be created as part of the redeveloped lounge area. I am delighted to see that the first of these new business partners are two well established Jersey companies whose range of local produce will be a welcome addition to the improved range of items soon to be available within this airside facility”.

On behalf of Jersey Pottery, Director Jonathan Jones said “We will be offering products that are unique from many Jersey companies. The awareness it will give the Jersey Pottery and the La Mare Wine Estate brands is fantastic. For Jersey Pottery it means we have one of the best opportunities to showcase our company’s products that are sold around the world and are really excited about this announcement.

The Managing Director of La Mare Vineyards, Tim Crowley said: “The ability for La Mare to offer the full range of its locally produced wines, spirits and food products in this new airside store is very exciting and we are also delighted to be working with Jersey Pottery on this new joint venture. Our team are very passionate about our products and I am confident that this new store will add to the overall shopping experience at the airport and offer additional benefits and convenience to all our customers”

Work is progressing well on the redevelopment project. The Island Food Hall facility is now complete and phase two of the World Duty Free shop has also opened. The development is due for completion by the end of August 2009.

Meanwhile, negotiations for the remaining two leases continue with interested parties and a further announcement is due shortly.
