Smoke detector aids lucky escape

26 May 2010

Two women were found suffering from smoke inhalation this afternoon when fire fighters were called to a lodging house in St Helier.

The fire, in Val Plaisant, was quickly extinguished. On investigation it was found that the fire started in a bedroom after a cigarette was carelessly discarded.

The occupants were alerted by a smoke detector and fire fighters say they had a lucky escape.

The Fire and Rescue Service would like to remind people of the dangers involved when cigarettes are not properly put out.
