Dates announced for fourth Jersey Boat Show

15 September 2010

The fourth Jersey Boat Show, in association with Barclays Wealth, will take place over next year’s first May bank holiday weekend. The free community event will be set around St Helier Harbour and will run from Saturday 30 April to Monday 2 May 2011.

CEO and Harbour Master Captain Howard Le Cornu made the announcement to key members of the boating and business community at the Southampton Boat Show:

“We are extremely proud to confirm officially that the Jersey Boat Show will enter its fourth year in 2011. Our inaugural show in 2008 was put together in just 6 months when we were looking at new ways of boosting marine business in the Island and raising the profile of our maritime industry. It was an incredible success and a mark of the enthusiasm, hard work and commitment from our staff behind the scenes across the Port of Jersey and Jersey Marinas. We attracted an estimated 12,000 Islanders and tourists, generating more than £4m worth of business for the exhibitors. The following year an estimated 20,000 visitors enjoyed the show."

In 2010 attendance grew by half as much again, with an estimated 30,000 visitors, of which 12,500 were recorded as having gone down on to the pontoons to take a closer look at exhibiting boats and vessels for sale. During the show approximately £14,000 was raised for marine charities and Holidays for Heroes.

The number of exhibitors that took part in the 2010 show – 120 - was up from 88 in 2009 and well over double the numbers in 2008.

Richard Corrigan, director at Barclays Wealth, Jersey said “We were delighted to be lead sponsor for the 2010 Jersey Boat Show. This event has quickly become a key date on the Jersey calendar and offers visitors a great opportunity to find out more about Jersey’s marine industry.  It also provides us with another chance to get involved in and give something back to our local community, a key objective for Barclays Wealth.”

Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Deputy Paul Routier said “The Jersey Boat Show is now firmly established in our tourism calendar and is regarded as a major event in the British and European maritime worlds. Traders reported good business in 2010 and it is accepted as being an important key event which brings major benefits for both local and off-Island business, tourism and Jersey as a whole.”
