Jersey Children and Young People Plan

21 May 2010

The future needs of Jersey’s children and young people are coming under the spotlight as part of a special all-day workshop organised to kick-start the development of Jersey's first ever Children and Young People's Plan.

The plan, which was one of the recommendations made by the transitional director of Children’s Services, Andrew Williamson, will set out a single strategic vision for all our Island's children and young people. It will set priorities for the services that affect their experiences and life chances, stretching beyond statutory provision to look at services delivered by all agencies across all sectors.

Representatives from local agencies, including charities and States departments, have been invited to take part in a development day on Monday 24 May at the Radisson Hotel. The day is designed to start the process of identifying outcomes and priorities which will be explored in more detail and in consultation with both young people and professional service providers over the coming year. It will culminate in the plan's publication in early 2011.

Minister for Health and Social Care and Chair of the Children’s Policy Group, Deputy Anne Pryke, said “This development day will mean that Jersey professionals will be able to offer their own unique insight into the issues that affect children and young people in the Island. It is a valuable opportunity to share the knowledge and ideas that will be central to our Children and Young People’s Plan. I am really pleased about the breadth of people who will be joining us.”
