Head of City of London to discuss finance ties on Jersey visit

The Right Honorable Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Nick Anstee, and a delegation of his team are visiting Jersey on Tuesday 20 July.

The Rt Hon Lord Mayor is the head of the City of London. He will be accompanied by Chief Commoner Deputy Robin Sherlock, Senior Programme Manager, Mr Billy King-Harman CBE, Mark Boleat, Deputy Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee at the City of London Corporation, and Chairman of the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA), and Doug Barrow, Chief Executive of London Maritime & Deputy for the Ward of Aldgate.

During his visit to the Island, the Lord Mayor will meet Jersey Finance Limited and the Jersey Financial Services Commission. He will also meet government officials and business representatives to discuss areas of common interest to both Jersey and the City of London. These include Jersey’s complementary relationship with the City; ship registration; engagement with the EU on issues such as the Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) Directive; working together on priority international markets such as the Middle East, India, China and Russia; and threats to and opportunities for the City of London and Jersey.

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur said “We are very pleased to welcome the Lord Mayor to Jersey. This visit offers an excellent opportunity to highlight the Island’s strong ties with the City of London and continue building links between our 2 finance centres.

“Jersey is a key international financial centre and we have a great deal to be proud of. Last year, we were among the first offshore centres to be placed on the OECD ‘white list’, we have recently been invited to be a Vice Chair of the OECD Peer Review and we were rated as the top Offshore Jurisdiction in the most recent Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI). The Island’s finance industry has also been recognised with a number of finance awards, including Best Offshore Centre.  I look forward to discussing these and other issues with the Lord Mayor.”

The Lord Mayor and his party will be staying at Government House. He will also be attending a dinner hosted by the Bailiff to be held in the Old Library, in the States Building before travelling on to Guernsey on Wednesday 21 July.
