Property Holdings to improve information on website

21 June 2010

Jersey Property Holdings (JPH) is to change the way it publishes information on the State website, www.gov.je , in response to a proposition lodged by Deputy Paul Le Claire.

In a move to improve public access to all States property transactions, www.gov.je will link to the websites of the agents responsible for advertising all property sales managed by JPH. In addition any Ministerial Decisions which are currently published on the States website will include maps which clearly identify the location of the properties in question.

Deputy Paul Le Claire highlighted the need for these measures in a proposition that was due to be debated in the States this week. Having raised his concerns over access to States property information, the Deputy has worked with JPH to find constructive solutions, and with the proposed changes agreed, has now withdrawn his proposition.

The Assistant Minister responsible for Property, Deputy Le Fondre, said "This is a very positive outcome, we both have the same objective of ensuring the maximum transparency of property transactions and I am grateful to Deputy Le Claire for raising these issues and then working with us to arrive at a practical solution."

Deputy Le Claire said "It is important that both the public and States Members are given access to as much information as possible when changes are being made to property owned by the public. Having met JPH, I am content that proper procedures are in place and the improvements I have suggested will satisfy my original concerns. I am pleased that JPH and I have been able to reach a positive outcome".
