Transport and Technical Services (TTS) started work this week on providing a new section of cycle route alongside La Rue à Don at Gorey.
The 8 week project will construct a cycle track from 30 metres south of the Bass and Lobster to La Rue Horman. It is the first stage in linking Gorey Village to Grouville School.
The cycle track is off-road on the western side, which means the construction work can be undertaken with little impact on traffic on La Rue à Don. There will be some minor disruption for pedestrians, who will have to walk around the works. Although this can be a busy pedestrian area at this time of the year, this type of work is best carried in dry summer weather to allow the ground to be correctly compacted.
Connétable Mike Jackson, Minister for TTS, said “I am really pleased that we are able to start on this first section of the Eastern Cycle Route which has been stimulated by the initiative of Deputy Carolyn Labey. This route will be a great attribute to the community and the start of the project will show the Britain in Bloom judges on Monday that we are serious in our desire to accommodate the needs of all parishioners.”
