Commercial Buildings works complete

08 September 2011

The strengthening and resurfacing works along the road outside Commercial Buildings have been completed on time and within budget.

The road, which stretches from Route de la Liberation to the junction with Mount Bingham, carries heavy vehicles travelling to and from La Collette and the harbour. It's also often used by tourists, cyclists and commuters.

Following the works, the road's now equipped to cope with heavy vehicles for the next 15 to 20 years.

As part of the works, Transport and Technical Services (TTS) improved the cycle and pedestrian facilities along the road and added a car park for Jersey Harbours at Victoria Harbour.

The pedestrian walkway, along the sea side of the road, has been resurfaced and railings have been installed. That will now be able to be used by pedestrians and cyclists. There's also a new shared use footpath along the boat park and Victoria Pier and a low wall has been built on one of the sharp bends to protect pedestrians and cyclists.

The 11 week, £1.3m project was completed by Geomarine Ltd. They were awarded the contract by TTS following a competitive tender process.

Connétable Mike Jackson, Minister for Transport and Technical Services said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank motorists, businesses and residents of the area for their patience and understanding during the last 11 weeks while the project has, by necessity, caused some disruption."

Whilst the contract works are now finished, there are still some minor finishing works to be done over the next week.

TTS also now intends to create a cycle path that links Havre des Pas to the existing one at the Waterfront.
