Conservation forum meets in Jersey

07 October 2011

Delegates from around the world gathered in Jersey this week for an annual conservation forum.

Biodiversity research and training were among the topics discussed at the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum which was held Les Creux Bowls Club, St Brelade, on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 October.

The meeting was a chance for environmental professionals from the Channel Islands and other Crown Dependencies to contribute towards the aims and objectives of the forum.

The Deputy Chief Officer of the Environment Department, Willie Peggie, said: “This meeting serves as an excellent annual opportunity for like-minded professionals to exchange information in biodiversity research and training and to maintain and strengthen co-operation and relationships across the jurisdictions.”

The meeting offered the chance for the attending jurisdictions to make sure that they are meeting their obligations under the Bonn, Bern and the Biological Diversity Conventions and also ensures that projects which will have an inter-jurisdictional impact are agreed and the outcome of previous projects is reviewed. It is also a forum for discussing joint working practice between the Channel Islands on issues of nature conservation interest.
