Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, has met Foreign and Commonwealth Minister and First Secretary of State, The Rt Hon William Hague MP, and Minister for Europe, David Lidington MP, during his final day at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.

Among back to back appointments throughout the day, Senator Ozouf met the Foreign Secretary and held a meeting with the Europe Minister earlier in the day to discuss Jersey’s expansion into emerging markets and its ongoing positive representation in the EU. This follows the supportive reception that Senator Cohen received for his speech to conference delegates on Monday 3 October, which also highlighted Jersey’s value as an international jurisdiction.

Continuing to focus on issues that directly affect the Island, Senator Ozouf also met with:

  • Cities of London and Westminster MP, Mark Field
  • Treasury Select Committee member and Deputy Conservative Party Leader, Michael Fallon MP
  • Media Sport and Culture Select Committee member, Philip Davies MP
  • UK Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries, Richard Benyon MP
  • Foreign Affairs Select Committee Chairman, Richard Ottaway MP and Andrew Rosindell MP of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee

Senator Ozouf commented: “Following the speech given by Senator Cohen, which was well received, I have taken full advantage of a very busy timetable at the Conservative Conference to represent Jersey on a number of key issues, and to discuss with senior UK politicians the Island’s status as an international jurisdiction. It is vital that we take these opportunities to engage on behalf of the Island with some of the coalition government’s influential politicians. I am particularly pleased to have been able to speak to UK Ministers today on matters that really affect us in Jersey.”
