Lieutenant-Governor to visit children's ward

16 December 2011

Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor, Gen Sir John McColl and his wife, Lady Gene McColl, will meet children on Robin Ward during a seasonal visit to the hospital on Tuesday 20 December.

During the visit on Tuesday morning, Sir John and his wife will meet patients and staff at the General Hospital including ward staff on the Maternity Unit, as well as Plemont and Beauport wards, before going to meet young patients on Robin Ward.

Tour

Sir John will be escorted on his tour by the Health and Social Services Minster Deputy Anne Pryke, and Assistant HSS Minister Deputy John Refault. They will be joined on the tour by HSS's chief executive Julie Garbutt, Chief Nurse Rose Naylor, and director of operations for the hospital, Angela Body.

In the Maternity Unit, Sir John and Lady McColl will meet the head of midwifery, Elaine Torrance, and Dr Akin Famoriyo, consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology. On Plemont Ward, he will meet Dr Andrew Luksza, consultant in respiratory medicine, and Sister Jean Douse. On Beauport ward, Sir John and Lady McColl will meet Gary Kynman, head of nursing for inpatients, Wendy Baugh, lead nurse for inpatients, and Sister Chantal Ballingall.

On Robin Ward, which is the final part of the visit, Ann Kelly, lead nurse for children, Sister Sally Gebhardt and Dr Tim Malpas, consultant paediatrician will be introduced to Sir John and Lady McColl.

Speaking about the visit, Deputy Anne Pryke, Minister for Health and Social Services, said "We are pleased that Sir John and Lady McColl will have the opportunity to come and see our patients, and just as importantly, our hard-working staff at this time of year, to find out more about what they do to care for patients all year round."

Always open

"The hospital is always open, no matter what time of year it is, for those who need it, and Christmas is no exception. As always, our staff will be working very hard over Christmas, and they, like our patients, all appreciate the visit. Jersey can be proud of its hospital, the services provided, and its dedicated staff."

Deputy Anne Pryke added "We look forward to welcoming Sir John and Lady McColl to see our staff and patients, particularly our young patients on Robin Ward, following their inaugural visit earlier this year."
