Emergency exercise at La Collette

20 October 2011

An emergency exercise will take place at La Collette on Friday 21 October between 2.15pm and 4.30pm. The exercise will use the scenario of a gas leak and explosion to test new emergency response arrangements between the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service and Fuel Supplies (CI) Limited.

The exercise will also involve the States of Jersey Police, the Ambulance Service, the Airport Rescue and Fire Service, Jersey Coastguard and the St Helier Honorary Police.

Martyn Maguire, Director of Safer Communities, States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, said: “There are no planned road closures and the main focus of the exercise will be confined to the immediate area of Fuel Supplies (CI) Limited with further activity in the area around the Steam Clock and La Folie Inn, where emergency services will rendezvous for the exercise.

“We are conscious of the interest the exercise may generate and would like to reassure people and businesses in the area that there will be as little disruption as possible and that the Honorary Police will be assisting with traffic management throughout the exercise to ensure public safety and a minimum of disruption to traffic.”

Jersey’s emergency planning officer, Michael Long, said: “There is a great deal of the Island’s key infrastructure at La Collette. This exercise is part of a greater scheme of work for the La Collette industrial area that will ensure we are prepared to respond to all eventualities and maintain the safety of the public and environment in the area.”
