Luxembourg Ambassador visit

08 July 2011

Luxembourg’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency, Mr Hubert Wurth, and his wife will be visiting the Island on Tuesday 12 July and Wednesday 13 July 2011.

During the visit, the Ambassador will meet with Ministers to explore strengthening diplomatic, business and cultural ties with Luxembourg, and collaboration in financial services. They will also discuss forthcoming negotiations for a Double Taxation Agreement between Jersey and Luxembourg, as well as EU tax directives.

Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said “I am very much looking forward to welcoming the Ambassador. Like Jersey, Luxembourg is an important centre for wealth management and a number of Jersey-based companies have offices in Luxembourg. This is an excellent opportunity to strengthen existing links between the two jurisdictions.”

Assistant Chief Minister, UK and International Relations, Senator Freddie Cohen, added “I look forward to meeting Ambassador Wurth and to discussing many important areas of mutual relevance to Jersey and Luxembourg. This will include tourism, heritage and financial services.”

During his visit, the Ambassador will also meet with the Deputy Bailiff and a number of representatives from the financial services industry. His wife, Mrs Francisca Wurth, will visit a number of Jersey attractions including Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and the Eric Young Orchid Foundation.
