New lay-by for school buses

31 August 2011

School buses will be able to park in a specially built bus lay-by on Wellington Road from the start of the new term.

Transport and Technical Services (TTS) has just finished building the new lay-by outside Beaulieu School. Up to 6 buses will now be able to park there when dropping off or picking up students.

The work was carried out during the school summer holiday and finished 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

The Assistant Minister of Transport and Technical Services, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said "I had been concerned for some time over the situation on Wellington Road when the school buses were picking up or offloading passengers. This scheme was developed by TTS following meetings with parish and school representatives. I think it will go a long way to improve this busy school area."

As part of the work, electric and telecoms cables in the pavement were deepened and a new electricity supply was provided to Beaulieu School.

TTS is grateful to the JEC and Jersey Telecom for working well together to complete all the work within the school summer holiday period.
