A driver is to be prosecuted for driving while holding a mobile phone, following a road check in St Clement.
Officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS), the States of Jersey Police roads policing unit and the St Clement Honorary Police conducted the road check outside St Clement parish hall between 9.30am and 11.00am on Tuesday 24 May 2011.
211 vehicles passed through the check, which also led to 5 drivers being issued with defect notices and a further 3 being asked to produce their documents at the parish hall.
2 of the vehicles had tyres that needed replacing. Other defects included oil leaks, a broken mirror and lighting.
The drivers of 2 foreign registered vehicles have been told to register their cars in Jersey. 3 drivers have been asked to present their driving licence and insurance at St. Clement parish hall.
The Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir, commented, "This was a very quiet road check in which the majority of vehicles appeared to be in good condition. But given the recent publicity about how dangerous using a mobile phone can be when driving, it’s disappointing that some motorists continue to flout the law and risk both their own and other road users’ safety."
