E-gaming on agenda in Israel

A States-led delegation began its 3 day visit to Israel today (23 May 2011) with a series of positive meetings in Tel Aviv.

Economic Development Minister, Senator Alan Maclean, and Assistant Chief Minister, UK and International Relations, Senator Freddie Cohen will attend business and political meetings and engage in cultural visits in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem during their stay in the country.

E-Gaming

Members of the delegation today met with the CEO of Playtech, one of the e-gaming industry’s leading software development companies. Following the establishment of Jersey’s e-gaming licensing regime, which passed into law in March this year, the delegation is now keen to meet with major companies such as Playtech to discuss the benefits of investment in Jersey. Further meetings with other prominent e-gaming companies are also on the delegation’s itinerary.

Senator Maclean commented: “We are now in a position to offer a highly competitive, sophisticated and well-regulated environment for e-gaming business. We are taking the opportunity while in Israel to meet with some of the world’s largest e-gaming companies and to raise awareness of Jersey’s unique position as a hub for European operations.”

Clean technology

Also on the itinerary was a meeting with leading sustainable transport company Better Place, to discuss the potential for clean technology investment in Jersey as a base for European operations. The delegation is also scheduled to meet with Tel Aviv based water technology companies Arad Water Technology and Netafim Water Technology, and Metrolight, an energy efficient lighting company based in Netanya.

Senator Cohen commented: “Diversification is one of the important pillars of our economic growth plan and the clean technology sector holds a number of interesting opportunities for investment in Jersey. We are pleased to be meeting with Better Place, which is one of the most forward-thinking and advanced sustainable transport companies in the world.”

The delegation includes the Minister for Economic Development, the Assistant Chief Minister (UK and International Relations), the Chief Executive of Jersey Finance and representatives from Jersey’s business and legal sectors.
