Unemployed Islanders who want to set up their own business are now able to get independent advice at a new help desk at Social Security.
Jersey Business Limited has teamed up with the Back to Work programme to provide a help desk on a Tuesday afternoon in the reception area at La Motte Street. Staff at the desk will give free, independent and confidential advice to people who are looking for work and want to find out about starting up a business.
Budding entrepreneurs
Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Business Limited, Andy Cook, said “One of our key aims is to provide advice and support to budding entrepreneurs. We will assess the new business idea, then provide practical and realistic professional advice to give it the best possible chance of success.
"Creating successful new businesses is clearly vital for our economy, and by working closely with the Back to Work team we will be there to listen, advise and support those who are ready to take such an important step.
“The desk is a great opportunity to reach a new group of people, see if we can help them and determine whether their business idea could work.”

Social Security Minister Francis Le Gresley said “We have a huge variety of people with wide-ranging queries visiting the Social Security Department every day and we are keen to do everything we can to provide information, support and advice which is relevant to them. The Jersey Business desk is an excellent way of broadening the scope of the advice available to the Island’s job-seekers.”
