St Martin's school planning application gets approval

09 November 2012

The planning application to construct a new school with playing field in St Martin has been approved.

It was one of two major planning applications which were approved by the Minister for Planning and Environment, Deputy Rob Duhamel, at a public Ministerial planning meeting on Friday 9 November 2012.

Approval was also given for the demolition of storage facilities and bridge at the site of the former Ann Street Brewery and construction of 15 apartments with parking.

The Chief Executive of the Planning and Environment Department, Andrew Scate, said “It has been recognised that the current St Martin’s primary school building was no longer fit for purpose and the scheme which was approved today will provide a well-designed facility which will meet modern educational standards for future generations of parish children.”

Mr Scate said that a contemporary architectural approach had been taken by the developers of the development at Ann Street and the result would be a well-proportioned and balanced building, providing one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

At Friday’s meeting, the Minister deferred his decision on the application to demolish Hotel La Tour on Rue de Crocquet, St Aubin. Following concerns raised by residents of Rue de Crocquet, Deputy Duhamel will visit the site before considering his final decision on the application.
