Unveiling of commemorative stone at Beauport

13 August 2012

A commemorative stone is to be unveiled on the Beauport headland to mark a gift of land. The gift, for the people of Jersey, was made by the Right Honourable 2nd Baron Trent of Nottingham, John Campbell Boot, on 21 October 1950.

The stone will be unveiled by his granddaughter, Emma Houston, at 2.30pm on Friday 17 August.

John Campbell Boot KBE 2nd Baron Trent inherited the land from his father, Jesse Boot, on 11 June 1932. Jesse Boot acquired Beauport as a gift for his wife Florence Boot in 1923. John Campbell Boot gifted the land to the public 2 years before Florence passed away, as per her wishes.

Transport and Technical Services has provided the block of granite and the inscription has been carved by Jersey Monumental. The stone will be placed in the car park above Beauport Bay.
