Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Services's Green Watch searched for 'Tyex' the Jack Russell when he ran off a cliff path close to Devil’s Hole and his owner could not find him.
Green Watch firefighters used specialist rope rescue equipment to search the area where Tyex was last seen and used binoculars to try to spot him.
After 2 hours the dog was spotted by one of the team members with binoculars, approximately a mile along the cliff path. The owner called for the dog to help firefighters target their rescue operation and Tyex managed to scramble to the top of the cliff to be reunited, uninjured, with his owner.
Station Commander Marc Le Cornu said “Finding Tyex was a very difficult task, but the team did a great job in coordinating and completing the search. I would also like to say well done to the owner, as it is always tempting for owners to follow pets into danger in an attempt to save them. However she did the right thing and called for help.
"We were delighted to have been involved in the successful conclusion to this incident and very happy to see Tyex uninjured and back in the arms of his owner.”
Firefighters are advising walkers intending to use cliff paths to let someone know where they are going and what time they are likely to be back, as mobile phone reception is patchy on the coast.
