GCSE results released

23 August 2012

GCSE results published today show Jersey students have continued to achieve better results than their counterparts in England.

The all-Island pass rate for GCSE grades A* to C is up slightly on the previous year to 74.8% from 73.6% in 2011.  This compared with the national pass rate of 69.5%, which has fallen from the previous year.

This year a total of 994 students sat GCSE examinations in the Island.

Nationally, the proportion of top grades had fallen. Although the trend has been mirrored in Jersey, the percentages here are only marginally down and remain higher than the UK.

Director of Education Mario Lundy said “I would like to congratulate all the students, staff and parents at our secondary schools. These are excellent results and reflect two years of hard work by professionals in the service as well as the young people who took the exams.”

Education, Sport and Culture Minister Deputy Patrick Ryan said “I am delighted with today’s results which show that Jersey’s education system is strong and performing well for our young people.”

Once appeals and re-marks have been completed, individual secondary schools will publish adjusted results by 9 November. These more accurate figures will be posted by each school on their own website and will include relevant contextual information. Links will be available from the States website.
