Le Coin site to be redeveloped

23 October 2012

A project to develop the former Le Coin Site, on the corner of Ann Street and Brooklyn Street, has been approved by Housing Minister Deputy Andrew Green MBE.  The scheme will provide 23 one, two and three bedroom units, all of which will be retained for social rented use.

The development fits with the Ministers proposals for the delivery of new affordable homes and contributes to the Housing Department’s aim of ensuring that all properties meet the Decent Homes Standard within 10 years.

The project will provide town centre accommodation, parking and amenities for 23 predominantly older households without young children. It includes:-

  • First floor and roof top amenity space
  • Covered parking
  • Wet Room bathrooms
  • Lift access
  • Balconies
  • Rain water harvesting
  • Waste Recycling

The homes will comply with modern building standards and are designed to lifetime homes standards. They will provide residents with centralised amenity space and secure parking facilities.

The Housing Minister said “The development of the former Le Coin site is an important step forward in the provision of homes which meet modern requirements. We are working very closely with the Treasury Minister to ensure our programme of work not only provides a steady stream of new homes over the coming years, but helps to support the local construction industry.

"I will shortly lodge proposals for the incorporation of the Housing Department, which will allow it to continue with its programme of improvements to achieve the Decent Homes Standard.”

Jersey Architectural practice Axis Mason led a Design Team of local professionals in the preparation of the design package, which will be issued for tender in 2013. They are now ready to start preparing the Planning Application, detailed design, bye-law application and other necessary information for the tender process.
