TTS seeks female respondents for taxi consultation

18 June 2012

With only 8 days to go to have your say on the future for taxis, Transport and Technical Services (TTS) is appealing for more women to complete their taxi consultation questionnaire.

The consultation closes on 28 June and although there have been over 400 responses received from the public, nearly 60% of these have been from men, which does not accurately reflect the balance of the population.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for Transport and Technical Services said “We are keen to get as many responses from the public as possible and encourage everyone who have not yet done so, to complete the consultation questionnaire either online via the States of Jersey website or by getting a printed questionnaire from Jersey Library, States Bookshop, Cyril Le Marquand House, TTS or parish halls. However we are particularly keen to hear from women who are currently underrepresented.”

The consultation is part of a review that TTS, as the States of Jersey department in charge of the rules which govern the operation of taxis, is carrying out. A report has been produced which outlines the current situation, highlights the issues and makes recommendations for changes to the regulation of the industry.

Before the department decides whether, and how, these issues should be addressed, it wants to hear what the public, the taxi industry and interested groups think about the issues. The department is particularly interested in getting the public’s opinion on the 2-tiered taxi system (rank taxis and company cabs), fares, and service expectations.

Members of the public are invited to complete an online questionnaire on the consultation page. There is also a short briefing document to explain the issues, as well as a downloadable copy of the full report. Paper copies of the questionnaire are available from:

  • the States bookshop
  • Cyril Le Marquand House
  • parish halls
  • Jersey Library
  • TTS offices
