Opportunities on offer at jobs fair

22 February 2012

Job-seekers attending tomorrow’s jobs fair will have the opportunity to talk directly to 19 employers with vacancies for a total of 78 jobs.

The fair, hosted by Careers Jersey, is the first of 2012 and will bring a host of different industries – from hospitality to finance and retail – into the same room. Those who attend will also be able to see details of the 200 vacancies available in the hospitality industry in the coming season.

The Head of Careers and Learning Support at Careers Jersey, Andy Gibbs, who is also a member of the newly formed Back to Work team, said that he was delighted that so many employers had responded to the invitation to take a stand at the fair and with the positive message that their presence would send out to job-seekers.

“The jobs fair is an excellent chance for both employers and job-seekers to meet and discuss the roles available and the skills required. The need to place locally qualified job-seekers into employment has been well-publicised over recent months and various departments of the States will do all they can to assist people in their search for work but the fair gives them the chance to take the next step and see what is out there.” said Mr Gibbs.

“The coming year is going to be a tough one for Islanders looking for work and so events that offer this kind of direct contact and support will be an important tool for them and for employers seeking motivated candidates.” he said.

The jobs fair is being held at St Helier Town Hall on Thursday 23 February from 12pm to 2pm and from 5pm to 7pm, and attendance is free.

Job-seekers who already have a CV are encouraged to bring copies with them to give to potential employers. As well as providing a forum for potential employment, the fair also looks at self-employment, volunteering opportunities with local charities and training options. Advisers from Careers Jersey will also be on hand to offer advice and guidance.
