Princess Royal visit

15 November 2012

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal will visit Jersey on Wednesday 21 November 2012. She will stay at Government House as a guest of the Lieutenant-Governor, His Excellency General Sir John McColl, and will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the Deputy Bailiff, William Bailhache.

Accompanied by the Deputy Bailiff and the Lieutenant-Governor, Her Royal Highness will visit the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. She will be given a presentation on various aspects of the Trust’s activities at home and abroad, after which she will be taken to see the baby gorilla ‘Indigo’, born in September this year.

Later in the afternoon, Her Royal Highness will visit the Jersey Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where she will meet staff and be given a tour of the facilities. In the evening, Her Royal Highness will return to Durrell to attend a reception to commemorate her 40 years as patron of the Trust.

Senator Gorst commented “I am pleased to have the opportunity of welcoming Her Royal Highness to Jersey. Islanders can feel justifiably proud of Durrell’s world-class facilities and conservation projects, and as patron of the Trust, The Princess Royal will be given the opportunity to see how her support has contributed to Durrell’s work.”
