Public meeting on future of Plémont Holiday Village site

03 December 2012

The Chief Minister is inviting Islanders to a meeting this Wednesday evening (5 December) to find out more about his proposal to purchase the Plémont Holiday Village site, so the National Trust can return the land to nature.

Senator Ian Gorst is asking the States to agree to:

  • buy Plémont Holiday Village and the adjoining land
  • negotiate with the owner for a fair price
  • use compulsory purchase if a price cannot be agreed
  • sell the land to National Trust for £2m, who will then restore the land to nature

Senator Gorst said “I believe it is important to ensure that the natural beauty of our Island, and in particular our coastline, is protected for future generations.

“I am proposing that the land be bought initially with funds from central reserves, but the intention is that this money would be reimbursed either from receipts from the States of Jersey Development Company or from the sale of other land. So buying this land would ultimately be funded from other property assets, without affecting services.”

National Trust

Senator Gorst will address the meeting and has asked the National Trust to explain how they would return the site to nature and then manage the land in the future.

The Chief Minister’s proposition to buy the land is scheduled for debate in the States Assembly on Tuesday 11 December.

Date of meeting – Wednesday 5 December
Time – 7.30pm
Venue – Assembly Room, Town Hall, St Helier
