UK Justice Minister visits

25 July 2012

The Minister of State for the UK Ministry of Justice, the Right Honourable Lord McNally, will visit Jersey this week from Thursday 26 July until Saturday 28 July.

He will be the guest of the Lieutenant-Governor, His Excellency General Sir John McColl, at Government House, and will meet the Chief Minister, Senator Ian Gorst, and the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt.

Lord McNally, the UK minister responsible for the Crown Dependencies, first visited Jersey in 2010. During this week’s visit, he will meet the Chief Minister and Assistant Chief Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, to discuss a range of topics, including the Island’s new strategic plan.

In addition to these discussions, the Lieutenant-Governor will accompany the Justice Minister to the Jersey Archive, where they will view the hoard of Iron Age Celtic coins that were discovered in the Island last month.

Lord McNally will also visit the Jersey Museum to view the ‘1781 – The Battle of Jersey’ exhibition, in the company of the Chief Minister, the Bailiff and staff from the Jersey Heritage Trust.

In other meetings, he will be speaking to representatives of local charities and businesses, as well as tax officials and members of Jersey’s finance industry.
