Tender for ash and residue shipment

26 November 2013

Transport and Technical Services has published the tender for the on-site movement and preparation of Air Pollution Control Residues (APCr) for shipment.

Contractors are invited to register their interest in tendering via the Channel Islands Procurement Portal, and will be expected to attend a tender briefing.

APCr background

Since 2011 APCr produced by the cleaning of flue gases at the La Collette energy from waste plant have been disposed of at the La Collette reclamation site. The residues have been placed in Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs) in a hazardous waste cell. TTS has now gained permission to export this waste.

The tender is for the on-site movement of the FIBCs, and the improvement of their condition, stability and labelling in preparation for shipment.

Tender briefing and deadline

The tender briefing, which contractors must attend, will highlight the importance of the safe movement and preparation of FIBCs and will include viewing of the material and its location. The briefing will take place on or around 5 December, so contractors must register their interest by then. Expressions of interest received after the tender briefing cannot be accepted.

TTS will ensure that all contractors who have registered are kept informed of the date and location of the briefing. The deadline for tenders will be 20 December.

Health and safety

Due to the nature of the material, TTS is placing a high emphasis on safety and has set strict parameters and restrictions on the methods which may be employed by contractors. The tender documents require all contractors to submit detailed health and safety information relating to the project.
