Jersey's boat show guaranteed until 2016

18 September 2013

Barclays have renewed their sponsorship agreement with Jersey's boat show, securing its continuity for the next three years.

And the dates of the 2014 Barclays Jersey Boat Show have been announced. It will take place in and around St Helier Marina over the May Bank Holiday of Saturday 3 until Monday 5 May.

The annual three-day show, which is organised by Jersey Marinas on behalf of Ports of Jersey, attracts in excess of 30,000 visitors over the three days and is the largest free-entry event in the Channel Islands.

The announcement of the sponsorship agreement, and next year's dates, was made at a reception at the PSP Southampton Boat Show on Tuesday, 17 September, hosted by Ports of Jersey with representatives from Barclays and other invited guests.

The Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, said “The Jersey boat show continues to go forward with ever-increasing success, made possible in part by the major sponsorship deal with Barclays. This is a tremendous example, demonstrating that even a free entry event can deliver both commercial and economic benefits to the Island where organisers are able to secure and work with private sector sponsors for mutual benefit.”

In response, Barclays' head of offshore and local markets, Neil McCluskey, said “We first sponsored the show in 2010, an event which was a resounding success with visitor numbers consistently up to around 30,000 and marine traders reporting buoyant sales. Since then, the show has continued to go from strength to strength, rapidly establishing itself as one of the major community events in the Island’s calendar, which is enjoyed by all who are involved or attend. We look forward to working with Ports of Jersey and other participants to build on this success.”

The Barclays Jersey Boat Show supports and promotes the Island’s marine leisure industry and ancillary services while enabling residents and visitors to experience Jersey's diverse maritime culture.

Next year's final programme of activities is yet to be announced but the event will once again include opportunities for the public to step on board yachts and watercraft berthed in St Helier Marina and to enjoy an array of stalls on the quayside including lifestyle and marine accessories exhibitors, local artisans, food and refreshment. The show will also include Royal Navy vessels.

For the first time, a show preview will be held on the afternoon of Friday 2 May, allowing invited guests exclusive access to the pontoons to view the watercraft and meet marine traders before the official public opening on the Saturday morning.

Companies can still get involved as exhibitors, caterers and sponsors, and information is available on the show's website.

Jersey Marinas is attending the PSP Southampton Boat Show alongside harbour representatives from Guernsey and Alderney. The show runs until Sunday 22 September 2013.
